A sense of disorientation washed over Olivia as she watched the removal of her neighbor’s pool. The Smiths, a family of four who had always seemed so content, were filling in their beautiful, sparkling swimming pool. It was a recent addition to the property, having only been installed last year.

She felt a strange disconnect, as if the world around her had tilted slightly. Why would they do this? The pool was a feature of the house, a focal point. Had something happened?

She made a mental note to get some fresh air. The air in her house felt thick, stale, heavy.
