The concert hall was deserted. Maria felt a cold knot tighten in her chest. Maestro Rossi, her mentor, her inspiration, the man who had shaped her entire musical career, was gone. No farewell concert, no final lesson, just a brief email: "Taking my leave. Your talent speaks for itself." She stared at the empty stage, the grand piano reflecting the harsh fluorescent lights. Her fingers, usually nimble and assured, trembled as she touched the keys. She sat down, but couldn’t bring herself to play. It was too soon, it felt too abrupt, too incomplete.
