The smell of old books and dust usually comforted David, but today, the library felt oppressive. Professor Eldridge, his guide to the labyrinthine world of ancient languages, had simply packed up and left. He'd found a single note wedged between the pages of a forgotten volume: "Seek the next chapter." He’d poured over ancient tomes with the professor for the last few years. Now, his mind felt a little lost, like the books around him. He ran a hand over the spines, a sudden, inexplicable urge to throw something.
