“Oh, God,” whispered Sophia, her voice barely audible. The words escaped her lips involuntarily. Across the room, amidst the swirling chaos of the dance floor, stood Mark. Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic rhythm that threatened to break through her chest.

She felt a strange disconnect, like she was observing the scene from a distance. The vibrant colours of the bridal party, the soaring music, the happy faces – all blurred into a hazy background. She couldn't focus. Her mind raced, a whirlwind of fragmented memories and unspoken questions.

She took a step backward, then another, hoping to disappear into the crowd. Her palms were slick with sweat. Why did seeing him trigger this… this sensation? She needed to escape.
