Sarah stared at the brightly colored flyer clutched in her hand. “Meet Mrs. Gable, your child’s new third-grade teacher!” it proclaimed, a picture of a smiling woman beneath. A familiar name. A name that sent a strange flutter in her chest. She squinted. Mrs. Gable. It couldn't be.

She dug out her old elementary school yearbook. Her fingers trembled slightly as she flipped through the brittle pages. There, nestled amongst the faded photographs of classmates, was a younger version of the woman on the flyer. The same smile, the same piercing blue eyes. A tight feeling constricted her throat.

“Mom? You okay?” her son, Ethan, asked, peering over her shoulder. His voice yanked her back to the present. She forced a smile, tucking the flyer away. "Just… remembering things. Come on, let's go get you some new pencils."
