Sarah tapped her foot impatiently as she waited for Liam to return from his "errand." He’d been gone for hours, and the text messages had been vague. Her stomach twisted as she looked at the calendar, the little post-it note stuck to it. 'Lessons' it read. But lessons for what?

When he finally walked through the door, he looked flustered. He mumbled a greeting, avoiding her gaze. He walked directly to the fridge, grabbing a bottle of water, then retreated to his study. She followed, a knot tightening in her chest.

She leaned against the doorframe, watching him. He was on his computer, fingers flying across the keyboard. As she watched, she noticed something. The screen displayed lines of text. Not English. It was her family's language. A cold sensation spread through her.
