The silence in the apartment was deafening, broken only by the rhythmic click of Leo’s fingers drumming against the counter. He stared at the empty fish tank, a stark contrast to the vibrant, bubbling life that had occupied it just yesterday. His brow furrowed in concentration.

His roommate, Ben, had assured him that he would take care of the new pet, a tropical fish, and its tank. Now, the fish was gone and Ben was nowhere to be seen. A hollow sensation bloomed in Leo’s chest.
