The email sat in Eleanor's inbox, bold and accusatory in its typeface. “Important Announcement Regarding Company Restructuring.” A cold sweat blossomed on her forehead. Restructuring? That always meant something bad, didn’t it? She tapped the mouse, her finger hovering over the link. Her stomach churned. It felt like she was staring down the barrel of something she couldn't understand.

She took a long, slow breath, trying to calm the jitteriness in her chest. Every sentence of the announcement felt evasive, couched in corporate jargon. 'Strategic alignment,' 'synergy,' 'enhanced shareholder value.' The phrases echoed hollowly in her mind. What in the world was really going on?

She glanced around her cubicle, at the framed photo of her kids, the half-finished crossword. This place, these people, had been her life for ten years. Now, this… this felt like the ground shifting beneath her feet.
