“Unbelievable,” Ben said, staring at the scene. He ran a hand over his face. The massive maple had been a fixture for years, now it was a twisted jumble. He had a sudden urge to check all the windows and locks in his house.

He crossed his arms, and his eyes darted from the tree to the sky, and then back again. This wasn't how he imagined his afternoon. The stillness felt…wrong.

He moved closer, inspecting the damage. The fall felt…too clean, too precise. It was as if someone had known, predicted the outcome, and prepared. The thought made his blood run cold.
