The email notification had arrived at precisely 2:03 pm. Evelyn, scrolling through her inbox, nearly dismissed it as spam. The subject line, “Monthly Statement - First National Bank," didn't ring any bells. She clicked it open, and the breath hitched in her throat.

She reread the numbers, her eyes blurring. The sheer amount was staggering. She felt a cold sensation creep up her spine, leaving goosebumps in its wake. She immediately closed her laptop, walked to the window, and stared out at the street.
