The antique music box, a gift from her late grandmother, lay open on the table. Inside, a small, folded piece of paper. Clara found it while cleaning, the music box now emitting a broken, tinny tune. She unfolded the paper.

It was a bank statement, listing an account she’d never seen before, in a name she didn’t recognize. The account held a large sum. She felt the blood drain from her face.

She sat down heavily, the music box's melody now grating on her nerves. Her hands were shaking as she reread the document. She felt a cold sweat break out on her forehead. She slammed the music box shut, silencing the jarring music, and let out a small, strangled gasp.
