Gemotions

The old shoebox, buried deep in the attic, was filled with letters and receipts. Amongst them, a bank statement, addressed to her husband, listing an account she had never heard of. Her hands felt clumsy, fumbling, as she examined the document.

The sheer discrepancy between their lives and the amount on the statement was astonishing. She felt a rising tide of discomfort, a tightening in her chest. She found herself clutching at her chest.

She closed the shoebox, the musty smell of the attic now overwhelming. The thought of confronting her husband filled her with dread. She went downstairs and poured herself a glass of water, her hand unsteady.
