Gemotions

The hum of the espresso machine filled Michael's small kitchen. He was preparing his morning coffee when the clinking of china outside caught his attention. He glanced out the window and saw Mrs. Rodriguez, his neighbour. She was having breakfast on her patio. He didn't think much of it at first. Then he saw the type of china.

It was antique porcelain, the kind he knew was worth a fortune. He couldn't help but stare. He knew Mrs. Rodriguez as a friendly woman who always wore the same simple dresses and talked about budgeting.

He replayed their recent conversation about the price of groceries in his head. Then he looked at the patio set, made of wrought iron that probably cost more than his entire apartment. He suddenly felt a chill, even though the sun shone brightly. He had a strange feeling.
