David slammed his laptop shut, the abrupt sound echoing in his small dorm room. He got up and started pacing. The university closing. It just didn't make any sense. He'd been working so hard. He felt a prickly sensation at the back of his neck, as if someone was watching him.

He pictured his parents' faces when he told them. Their sacrifices. Their hopes. He ran his hand through his hair, messing up the neat style he’d carefully maintained. The room, usually a haven of order, suddenly felt claustrophobic.

He stopped pacing and stared at his reflection in the mirror, his features drawn and unfamiliar. He felt a creeping sense of panic, a cold wave washing over him. He was losing his mind.
