Gemotions

The old house hummed with the ghosts of past owners. Leo stood in the musty basement, surveying the excavation site. He'd been renovating the place for months and in the process of digging up a section of the basement floor, had found a small metal box. The metal felt cold against his skin.

He knelt, running a finger across the inscription: "For the future." A peculiar feeling bubbled up, a sort of disorientation. The handwriting on the box was his own, scrawled in a familiar, hurried manner. He opened the time capsule.

Inside, nestled between brittle newspaper clippings, was a single, tarnished silver key. He didn't know what it unlocked. He felt a sense of incompleteness, a longing for a missing piece of a puzzle he couldn’t even begin to assemble. His heart rate increased slightly, but not dramatically.
