Daniel found the biography tucked amongst his bills. He felt his face flush. He was a man of routines, of predictable habits. This was anything but. He ran his hand over his face. He felt like he was burning up.

He felt like throwing it against the wall, but his hands were trembling too much. He looked again. There it was, laid bare, his life. The triumphs, the failures, the moments he’d long tried to forget. The very intimate details. He sat down abruptly, the chair creaking under his weight.

He struggled to breathe. Everything seemed to be swimming. He had to know who had done this, who had violated his privacy so completely. He stood up. He walked toward the window, looking out over the city. It was a bleak, overcast day, and the world outside mirrored the storm brewing inside him.
