Gemotions

The first thing Alice did was to turn the book face-down. She didn’t want to look at the cover again. She felt a burning ache in her chest. A tightness. She slumped onto the couch.

It felt… wrong. Violating. The author had interviewed her family, her friends, people she hadn’t spoken to in years. They'd revealed things about her, things that were hers alone. Her mind raced. The world seemed to tilt on its axis.

She needed a drink. Or maybe not. What did anything even matter anymore? She got up and walked to the window. The world outside seemed distant, hazy. She closed her eyes, trying to block everything out, but the words, the accusations, the memories, were already there. They swirled in her head, threatening to drown her.
