The old photograph lay between them on the table, a faded image of their trip to the beach. Sarah pointed at the waves. "Remember how choppy the water was? We almost didn't go in."

Mark found himself staring at a calm, serene expanse of water. His version of that day was one of tranquility. He was surprised by how much the divergence disturbed him.

He felt a knot form in his stomach. He wasn’t used to this. He pushed the photograph away, feeling a sudden need to distance himself from it.

"I thought it was… perfect," he finally said, his voice barely a whisper. He found it difficult to maintain eye contact. The sun was suddenly too bright, the room too small. He felt a deep sense of unease.
