Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the kitchen, but for John, the scent offered no comfort. He stood frozen, his gaze fixed on Mary, who was humming softly as she kneaded the dough. The memory of the camping trip, supposedly a bonding experience, was now a source of deep anxiety.

“I’m pretty sure the bear was right next to the tent, John,” Mary said, glancing up with a smile. “We almost got eaten!” John remembered a distant rustle in the undergrowth, no direct threat. The difference in their memories was a shock.

He felt a chill, a shiver that ran down his spine. He put his hands in his pockets, seeking some solace. He felt a growing sense of isolation, a disconnection from the person he thought he knew so well.

He felt the need to get out of the kitchen. He mumbled an excuse and retreated to the living room, leaving Mary alone with her happy memories.
