The doctor’s explanation, delivered in a clipped, clinical tone, had left Emily reeling. Her file, inadvertently merged with another patient's, now contained a diagnosis of a life-threatening heart condition. She felt a wave of nausea, her stomach churning. She focused on breathing, trying to regain control.

She pushed herself up from the examination table, her legs shaky. The antiseptic smell of the room suddenly felt overwhelming. She needed to get out, to breathe in fresh air, to prove to herself that the world still felt the same. She started towards the exit, her hands clenched into fists.
