The weight of the misplaced records felt oppressive on Paul. He read the details of the other patient’s struggles – a debilitating spinal injury, multiple surgeries, constant pain. He felt a pang of empathy, but it was quickly overshadowed by a surge of unease. His own life, seemingly perfect, felt like a lie.

He sat in silence, staring at the file, the sterile office air feeling heavy and thick. His head throbbed.
