James stared at the screen, jaw clenched. "By: Susan Miller." His carefully crafted study, years of work, reduced to a ghost of its former self. He began to sweat. His fingers trembled as he reread the email.

He slammed his fist on the desk. The sound echoed through the silent office. He felt the sting in his knuckles, but the pain was nothing compared to the turmoil in his chest.

He needed to talk to someone, but the words wouldn't form in his throat. He felt trapped, his thoughts a chaotic jumble he couldn't organize. He ran a hand through his hair, the gesture a desperate plea for order.
