The vibrant colors of the art gallery blurred before Chloe's eyes. She had seen it on her phone: her article, the one she’d poured months into, was now "authored by Adrian Thorne." She felt a prickling sensation all over, as if thousands of tiny insects were crawling beneath her skin.

She excused herself from her friend and fled outside, seeking the cool evening air. The city lights, usually a source of comfort, now seemed garish and mocking. She pressed her palms against her eyes, attempting to stem the flow of tears.

The betrayal felt visceral. She imagined the triumphant smile of whoever had taken her credit.
