The sales floor was a frenzy of activity, a cacophony of ringing phones and rapid-fire conversations. He, by contrast, had always preferred the calm, quiet rhythm of the library. Now, he was expected to sell.

He felt a deep sense of inadequacy, a creeping sensation of unease. He watched his new colleagues effortlessly charm customers, their words flowing like water. He, meanwhile, felt like a clumsy oaf, tongue-tied and awkward.

He retreated to his desk, fiddling with the presentation materials. His heart pounded in his chest, a frantic drumbeat against his ribs. The fear of failure seemed to suffocate him.
