The vibrant, chaotic energy of the art gallery seemed muted, distant. Maya wandered through the exhibits, her gaze unfocused, the colorful paintings blurring into a meaningless kaleidoscope. The DNA results had unearthed a buried past, a lineage she had never known, and now, it seemed to be all she could think about.

She found herself unconsciously touching her face, tracing the lines of her jaw, her cheekbones. The physical sensations were the only things that felt real. The artwork, normally a source of comfort and inspiration, now felt irrelevant, a distraction from the turmoil inside. She felt completely disoriented.
