The drive home was a blur of stoplights and distorted radio static. Mark gripped the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles ached. The revelation, a complete shock, had left him feeling like a stranger in his own life. The test results, printed in black and white, stared up at him from the passenger seat.

He pulled into the driveway, killed the engine, and sat there, frozen. His usual sense of belonging, his connection to the familiar surroundings of his home, had evaporated. He felt a deep sense of wrongness, of profound unease, as if the very air around him had become hostile. He just sat there, not moving.
