Her stomach churned. The articles, the comparisons, the undeniable proof. The author she'd admired, the writer whose words had provided solace and escape, was revealed to be a fraud. Amelia felt a cold dread spread through her.

She picked up a pen and began to scribble furiously on a piece of paper, a jumble of words, half-formed sentences, nothing making sense. Her mind raced, the thoughts a chaotic jumble. She tore at the paper, crumpling it into a tight ball.

She kicked at a chair, the wooden leg scraping against the floor. Then, she sank to the floor, her back against the wall, and just stared blankly at the ceiling.
