The news felt like a physical blow. James sat frozen in his dorm room, staring at the screen. The small, cramped space felt suddenly suffocating. A wave of nausea washed over him, and he instinctively put a hand over his mouth.

The scholarship...the reason he was here, the reason he could afford anything. Gone. He felt a burning sensation behind his eyes, a tightness in his throat. He got up from the bed, pacing the small room, his mind racing, trying to find a solution. The walls seemed to close in on him, the silence amplifying the frantic beat of his heart.

He grabbed his phone, the thought of calling his parents, and the shame that came with it, filled him with dread. He threw the phone back onto the bed, the plastic clattering against the mattress. He had to figure this out.
