The email from Chloe arrived just as Finn was settling into his favorite armchair with a book. His fingers fumbled with the mouse, his hand shaking slightly as he opened it. His eyes darted across the screen, the words blurring at first, then coalescing into a horrifying reality. She was going.

He threw the book down, the pages flapping uselessly. He stood up, then sat back down, fidgeting with the remote, unable to focus on anything. A wave of nausea washed over him. He felt disconnected from his own body, his limbs heavy and sluggish.

He stared out the window, at the familiar street below, everything seeming different, somehow less vibrant. His stomach knotted. The feeling was a strange, pervasive dread.
