Gemotions

The drive home felt interminably long. Sam gripped the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles ached. He kept replaying the conversation with Ben over and over, each repetition intensifying the ache in his chest.

He pulled into his driveway, the gravel crunching under the tires like a soundtrack to his misery. He sat in the car for several minutes, the engine idling. He felt frozen, unable to move, as if the news had paralyzed him.

He eventually shut off the engine and got out of the car, moving towards his house with a lethargic slowness. He reached the door, fumbling with the keys, his fingers numb.
