He stared at the peeling wallpaper in the master bedroom. It was exactly where the body had been discovered, or so the detective had told him. The room, once a sanctuary, now felt like a prison. He didn't even want to enter it.

He sat on the edge of the bed, his hands clenched in his lap. The silence was deafening, broken only by the frantic beat of his own heart. He kept picturing the scene, each detail etched into his memory.
