The streetlights cast long, distorted shadows across the pavement as Leo walked toward the office. He hunched his shoulders, pulling his jacket tighter. A cold sweat had broken out across his forehead, despite the chill of the evening. He avoided eye contact with anyone he passed, convinced they could see the disquiet swirling within him. His heart hammered in his chest, a frantic drumbeat against his ribs.

He found the right door and stood there for a long moment, staring at the nameplate: “Dr. Kevin Miller, LPC.” The same Kevin Miller who had made his childhood a constant battle. He finally reached for the handle.
