Gemotions

The aroma hit Maya before she even opened the door. Gardenias, a scent she usually loved, now made her skin crawl. There, on her doorstep, was a massive bouquet. No card, of course.

She stood frozen, her hand still on the doorknob. The world seemed to tilt slightly. She tried to recall if she'd offended anyone, if she had forgotten a special occasion. Her mind was a blank slate.

She slowly pushed the door open, the scent flooding into the hallway. She turned, her breath hitched, and grabbed a baseball bat. The flowers, she decided, were a threat. She couldn't shake the feeling.
