Gemotions

It had been a brutal day. David had endured a particularly frustrating meeting with his boss and a fender bender on the way home. Then, he came to his door to find an elaborate arrangement of lilies. No card. He'd never liked lilies.

He dropped his briefcase onto the floor with a thud. His shoulders slumped. He felt an unwelcome pressure building in his temples. He was overcome by a desire to run, to escape the suffocating silence of his apartment and the unsettling presence of the flowers.

He backed away slowly, as if the blooms might reach out and grab him. He turned and fled, not even bothering to close the door behind him.
