"This is insane," Elaine said to herself, her voice barely audible. She crumpled the flyer in her fist. The building she'd lived in for years, the place where she raised her children, was going condo.

She walked into the living room, a space filled with memories. She felt her chest tighten, and tears pricked her eyes. Everything felt… uncertain, unstable.

She sat on the sofa, her posture rigid. She had no idea where she’d go, what she’d do. She felt like she was being swept away by a current, powerless to fight.
