He stared at the book, a cheap paperback, with a lurid cover depicting a caricature of himself. *The Jonah Files: The Making of a Maverick*. Jonah ran a hand through his already dishevelled hair. He felt a throbbing sensation behind his eyes, a familiar headache brewing. He’d been working on a merger all day, and this wasn’t helping.

He threw the book onto his desk, the sound echoing in the silent office. He felt a creeping disquiet, like a cold hand had just touched his spine. He reached for his water bottle, unscrewing the cap with shaking fingers. He felt a strange sort of exposure.

He picked up the book again, flipping through it haphazardly, stopping at a passage describing a childhood accident. It was all accurate. How? He hadn't spoken about this to anyone but his wife, and she'd been adamant she'd never discussed it. He needed a drink, a strong one.
