Gemotions

The incessant pounding sent a shiver through her. She was in the garden, attempting to weed, but the noise made it impossible to concentrate. She dropped to her knees, staring at the soil, feeling a deep weariness wash over her.

She thought of the garden at her childhood home, the scent of roses, the feel of the cool earth between her fingers. Her mother had loved to garden.

The hammering was a sharp, unwelcome intrusion into a world she wished she could revisit. She sighed and slowly began to pick up the weeds.
