He walked aimlessly through the park, the crisp air doing little to dispel the gloom. Ethan had received the devastating news just moments before. He felt as though the world had tilted off its axis. He didn't know what to do, where to go, or what to think.

The vibrant colors of the autumn leaves seemed dull, the rustling of the wind a constant reminder of his failure. He sat on a bench, watching the other park-goers, their easy smiles a painful reminder of his own turmoil.

He thought of the future he had envisioned, the goals he had set. They now felt unreachable. He stared at his shoes, feeling a sense of disappointment and the sting of unfulfilled potential. He was struggling for a way forward, but the path was obscured by an overwhelming darkness.
