The flickering neon sign of the all-night diner cast elongated shadows across the rain-slicked pavement. Sarah stirred her coffee, the spoon clinking softly against the ceramic. Across from her, Liam was a stranger she knew better than anyone. They'd spent countless hours chatting online, sharing secrets, dreams, and anxieties. She took a shaky breath, the steam from the coffee momentarily clouding her vision. It was surreal. Months of late-night conversations, shared playlists, and inside jokes, all culminating in this lukewarm coffee and shared booth. A wave of something akin to vertigo swept over her.

“You okay?” Liam asked, his brow furrowed with concern. She nodded, forcing a smile. The rain outside seemed to amplify the silence between them, the space where all the witty banter used to be. The weight of it was suddenly heavy, pressing against her chest.
