The kitchen table, once a hub of familial activity, now felt like a stage. From his perch, in the very same chair he had occupied as a child, David watched his parents move about, their routines as familiar as his own heartbeat.

He stared at his hands, watching his fingers tap against the worn wood. He hadn’t felt this vulnerable in years. The warmth of the room felt stifling, the smell of cinnamon and coffee, overwhelming.

He remembered the arguments, the shared laughter, the silent understanding that had bound him to this place. He felt a deep longing for a past that was already gone. He was home, but it wasn't the same.
