A wave of dizziness washed over Evelyn as she stood in the doorway of her old bedroom. The air hung thick with dust and the scent of potpourri, a scent she had always found cloying. The room, once her sanctuary, now felt like a museum exhibit.

She walked in and sank onto the bed, the mattress sagging beneath her weight. She was surrounded by the remnants of her youth, the posters, the books, the stuffed animals. These relics from her past seemed to mock her.

A strange ache settled in her chest. She was no longer the girl who had dreamt of escaping this very room. Now, she felt a profound sense of rootlessness. Where did she belong?
