Gemotions

The air in the small apartment was heavy with grief. The removal company had brought the boxes to his place. He sat on the floor, surrounded by cardboard, feeling a strange detachment from his surroundings. He reached for a box labeled "David – Schoolwork."

He flipped through a folder containing his elementary school papers. His younger self stared back at him, through messy penmanship and immature sentence structure. He recognized the feeling of not being able to understand the work.

He held a drawing of a rocket ship with his name printed carefully in the bottom corner. He remembered the feeling of accomplishment. He felt a sudden, sharp ache in his chest.
