The decorations, still in their boxes, lay untouched in the hallway. Sarah leaned against the wall, a hollow feeling spreading through her chest. The cancellation felt like a physical blow, stealing the air from her lungs. She had envisioned the joyous faces, the shared laughter, the warmth of companionship. It was all gone.
