Gemotions

The phone slipped from his grasp, clattering to the floor. The news, delivered with a casual tone, hit him hard. He'd been looking forward to the celebration with such excitement. He felt suddenly deflated, like a punctured balloon. The energy had drained from him.

He looked around the room, which moments before had felt vibrant with possibility. Now, the decorations, the invitations, the hopeful preparations felt like a mockery. He sank into a chair, his shoulders slumping forward. The weight of the world, it seemed, was suddenly resting on his back.
