Sarah walked slowly, kicking a stray pebble across the cracked pavement. Her stomach twisted, not with hunger, but with something akin to disappointment. "The Golden Spoon" was closing. She’d seen the notice on Facebook this morning, a small, unassuming post that had punched a hole in her day. She clutched the worn leather of her handbag, a nervous habit she hadn't realized she’d been doing.

She remembered her first date there with David, years ago. The nervous fumbling with the menu, the shared laughter over a spilled glass of wine, the hesitant first kiss. She and David, they were finished, but the restaurant held echoes of a time when everything felt possible. She looked down at her feet.

The building itself seemed to slump, the paint peeling around the windows. She recalled the owner, Mrs. Chen, always smiling, always remembering her usual order: the sesame noodles and a pot of jasmine tea. The thought of that comforting ritual disappearing was almost unbearable.
