"Well, this is a find," Sarah mumbled, dusting off an old gramophone. The attic was a labyrinth of forgotten things, a testament to lives lived and left behind. She’d always been fascinated by history, by the echoes of the past.

She’d thought she knew what she wanted. A clean slate, a fresh start. But the attic had a different story to tell. A box of vinyl records sat beside the gramophone, the labels peeling. She picked one up, a scratch marring its surface. Her thumb traced the grooves, and she was transported somewhere else, to other times.

As she looked around, she understood the impulse to leave things behind. The urge to escape the past. She lowered herself on the floor, suddenly exhausted. The weight of her own baggage was heavy enough. Maybe a clean slate wasn't necessary.
