He stared at the blank screen of his laptop, the cursor blinking accusingly. He’d been trying to work, to focus on the presentation due next week. But his mind was a tangled mess of disbelief and anger. The shared Instagram account, the overlapping dates in their respective calendars, the evidence was undeniable.

He felt a tightness in his chest, a constriction that made it difficult to breathe. He remembered the woman’s words, her wide-eyed shock when she had opened the door. He’d thought he’d been careful, thoughtful. The reality was that he had been fooled too.

He pushed back from the desk, suddenly restless. The world around him seemed to have shifted on its axis. He felt a deep need to simply walk, to physically move, to shed the weight of this knowledge. He stood and walked through his apartment, unable to find any peace.
