Clara tossed and turned in bed, unable to find a comfortable position. The fluorescent light from the hallway spilled under the door, casting long shadows across the room. Her jaw ached from clenching it so tightly. It was the feeling of being exposed.

She recalled the furtive glances her roommate, Emily, had been giving her. She recalled Emily's nervous laugh. The betrayal felt like a tangible thing, a cold stone in her gut. She’d trusted Emily.
