He sat on the worn couch, the package resting unopened on the coffee table. "Mr. David Carter" was the name scrawled on the label, a name that felt both alien and strangely familiar. The air in the apartment felt heavy, thick with the scent of old books and something else…something subtly melancholic.

He stared out the window, watching the rain streak down the glass. The city lights blurred, reflecting in the wet pavement. He'd been living here for a while now, but still, he felt adrift.

He reached for the package, his movements slow, deliberate. Inside, he found a collection of vinyl records. He flipped through them, recognizing a few artists, others unknown. He had not owned a record player in years.
