The wind howled outside, rattling the windows as Eleanor sat at the kitchen table, the lamp casting a warm glow over the photographs. It was her aunt's collection, unearthed after the house sale. She'd known her aunt as a quiet, somewhat eccentric woman, a spinster who lived a solitary life.

One photo depicted her aunt, young and vibrant, posing on a beach with a group of friends. She was smiling, carefree, leaning in towards a man with bright eyes and a mischievous grin. The man wasn't mentioned in any of the family stories, and the beach location was far from the prairie town where she'd lived her entire life.

A chill ran down Eleanor's spine, a deep internal tremor. Her aunt's life, as she’d understood it, was instantly reshaped. This woman in the picture was not the woman she had known. She had always thought of her aunt as trapped, unfulfilled. Was it possible she had been wrong all this time?
